MI40 Supplements – A Powerful Post-Workout Shake

Under: Supplements, Videos

Back today with another MI40 feature and an exclusive look at what Ben Pakulski (Bodybuilding champion) has in his post workout shake.

Check out the video below as we talk about some of the top ingredients and their benefits and why there is an even better time to have your post-workout whey protein shake than right after a workout.

mi40Because we were filming in the gym, some of the audio in the video is a little weak, but below, I went ahead and typed it out so you can clearly see what is in this Mega-Shake!

MI40 Post-Workout Shake Protocol:

50g carbs – Gatorade
5g creatine
  • 10-15g Glutamine
  • 10g Arginine
  • 5gBeta Alanine
  • 20-30 minutes later – Whey protein shake alone
  • .
  • Big Take Home Points:

    - Why BCAA’s right after a workout but not whey protein? Both work well, but right after a workout, when you consume your fast acting carbs you want to have fast acting amino acids as well. Whey proteins can take up to 15 minutes to digest and absorb wheras BCAA’s are almost instant absorption which is better for an immediate post-workout option.

-Arginine: Highly assoicated with GH and helps with recovery and helps protect the muscle. It is also associated with nitrogen retention or protein synthesis

    - Creatine: no big benefit from having more than 5g at a time since it replenishes more quickly. BCAA, Glutamine and Arginine: If you do have a bit more than recommended it wont make a big difference if anything it will simply excrete it. But that is not to say to go and have 20g more of it! Moderation of course but the bottom line is dont get too hung up on the exact numbers.

Now this is coming from Ben himself! There is no supplement pitches in this video, so you know that these ingredients are really the one’s you need :)

Ben is a meticulous crafter of musce building plans as you can probably tell just from his tall order at the post-workout supplement counter right?

Well it has been a long time in the making, but Ben has FINALLY released his world-class MI40 Program and this week is the presale!

Quick question. Can the exercise be done at home? I have a bench, stability ball, dumbbell and pull up bar. Will this be enough for the program and how many day in a week will i workout?

    2. H-Sid says:

Do you get Arginine, Alanine and Glutamine separately (i.e. individual formulas)? or Are they in a specific formula?

    3. bob g says:

What do you take during your workout?

    4. Craig L. says:

Supplements are not the secret weapon in Ben’s arsenal. As a long-time natural bodybuilder who has worked with many other natural bodybuilders (some with great genetics), it is quite easy for me to spot the guys who are not just using over the counter supplements.

Besides that, I have used all of the supplements listed above and can tell you that none of them compare to simply providing your body with the proper nutrients for growth and recovery from your diet alone.

Don’t believe me? Use all of these supplements for 3 months and see if your results are any different. The additional results that they provide, if any, will not be worth the money you will have to continue investing in them every month.

The secret to building a ripped and muscular physique is proper training and nutrition. Everything else is just a waste of time and money.

Sorry for being negative with this comment. I love this blog and The Anabolic Cookbook, but I have fallen in the trap of thinking supplements are the missing ingredient for my success far too many times. My best results have always come from a proper combination of weight training, cardio and diet. That really is all that anyone needs to succeed.

      • Dave Ruel says:

Hi Craig, this is not a negative comment. I totally agree with you and I never said that you NEEDED supplements. Supplements will only make between 5-10% difference considering nutrition and training are done perfectly.

Nutrition + Training must be completely in line before taking supps… if one part of the equation is wrong, well your supps won’t do anything for you.

Thanks for the comment Craig, very good one as always

      • Jody says:

I agree with Craig on this. I’m not sure Dave why you are hooking up with someone who is obviously taking more than supplements. I enjoy your posts and have purchased your Cookbook, I am not interested in seeing comments and advice from someone who takes drugs to augment his body. If I did I would buy Musclemag.

        • Dave Ruel says:

To be honest, I don’t know or care what Ben takes. Not interested in knowing. What I care is that Ben is a very smart dude, learned a lot from the guy and I feel the info he is giving is valuable for my reader.

        • AMI says:

I know a lot of people, who are continuously using drugs, No one blames them, especially because they are using more or less COFFEE! Cafeine is a DRUG. To some people it s effect is good, as they claim, to other people it may be dangerous for their health, both fysically and mentally. Any way coffee raises blood pressure. For people, whose BP is higher than normal, it may be very dangerous.
Coffee/cafeine has a very well known effect to give a short “high”. That is why people “must” have it more and more and more to feel themselves “satisfied”. They think, that they receive more strength and determination that way, but it lasts only for a very short period of time. After that they feel tired and miserable again, powerless, undetermined, even lost. So they take more of it to have the (very short) nice feeling again!
I drink coffee now and then, but usually only sometimes on Fridays, when I go out to the market with my wife. I do not need any poles to lean on. I am used to take no medicine to be happy!
I do not envy other people, who want to lean on poles, I only feel sorry for them…
To sum up: People, who are cronicly undernourished, are using drugs, because they are unhappy in life, not receiving enough certain vitamines, minerals, aminoacids and enzymes and LOVE.

    5. TPC says:

      Dave,

Which is a better approach? I recently purchased your Anabolic Cookbook and looking to start training and strict diet in January, currently doing my homework to be fully prepared to start off the new year right.

I find that in your cookbook, most of the carbs are in the morning. I would likely be working out early in the evening. Is it better to workout around the time carbs are consumed the most? Also, does this really matter? Should I follow this approach and consume my protein shake 20-30minutes AFTER a workout? And, Whats up with not consuming carbs before a workout? I thought it was the other way around

Sorry, too many questions… I fond myself really confused right now.

      • Dave Ruel says:

Hey TPC, ti be honest there is no right or wrong way. The good ol’ PWO shake will always work :) What Ben shows here is a bit more advanced.

For the carbs pre-workout, never been a huge believer, I like to get them during (when it’s a hard workout) and after.

    6. Jeff says:

      Dave,

I recently bought the MI40Program, early Christmas gift for me! :) Let me tell you & your followers, I cant get enough of it. I really love it!! As you said, I dont really care what Ben is taking. As long as he is providing me with new info & I’m seeing results. I’m happy! As the saying goes, the more you know, the more you grow! I have learned a lot in such a short time. Never did I think that, for example, just a simple adjustment in leg curls could put more focus on the hams. I’m really happy with my purchase.

As far as supplements, I’m a bit confused on this video. In his MI40Program, he suggest taking Arginine before workouts. Nothing in his post works for Arginine. Again, the info provided by Ben for recovery is really something I never knew about. I’m willing to give it a try & lets see what happens. If I can reduce inflammation by taking a couple more supplements, then I’m willing to try it.

Thanks for introducing me to Ben!
